I'm Robert Kingett, a blind journalist in Chicago and I'm here to talk about the accessible Netflix project.

About this project
Netflix is a popular internet streaming and rental service that streams TV shows as well as movies. It also allows subscribers to rent DVDs. The Netflix platform isn’t accessible and that’s what this project aims to change. With the help of the community we will make Netflix a truly accessible place for everyone to enjoy.
The Purpose (Mission)
1. To provide accessible software and interface to Netflix users
2. Implement and ensure future accessibility practices and consideration
3. Ensure that relatively all types of disability are taken into careful consideration at all times
These are the targets we want to meet
1. Provide a screen reader friendly experience to all Netflix functions on the PC and mobile devices with all screen readers
2. Provide an easily navigable interface for the mobility impaired using adaptive technology.
3. Provide easy access to audio described content for the blind and the visually impaired on streaming services as well as DVD selection currently and in the future.

maybe I am the odd one out but how is that netflix is not accessible? Audeo discription I will give you that outside of that please educate me. I do fine but I am just one person among a billion who use it.
I use to have Netflix for a fue years I don't have it as of last year. as far as I can remember it was accessible with jaws. did it change now? let me know cause I was thinking about getting it again.
I had the same thought when reading this post. The only thing they could do to be more blind friendly is offer descriptive videos. I highly doubt that's going to happen though.
Anyway, I am able to access Netflix on my I-phone, Apple TV, and my PC. I haven't watched a movie on the PC in a long time so I can't speak about that but the sight itself is accessible. Sure, they could do more with headings or markers or whatever to make browsing through movies quicker but other than that, the sight is fine.
The only devices on which I cannot access Netflix that we have are my son's X-box and WII. Roku boxes are also not accessible. However thatisn't the fault of Netflix but rather the viewing system. Now, if they could find a way to make those systems accessible, that would be great, especially the X-Box because there's so much stuff that parents need to be able to monitor that is not accessible to my husband or me. It isn't a problem now but will be when the kiddo gets a little older. Fortunately, he still thinks kissing is gross and doesn't like profanity but those days will end all too soon.
Anyway, I digress but those are my thoughts and experiences for what they're worth.
I definitely agree, I use Netflix everyday, and see no problems with it.
I don't have it right now but I know someone who has Netflix and it works fine.
I find netflix once signed in a little more accessible on android because it does not jump around like voiceover does on my Iphone5 when you atempt to double tap on a movie but all and all it works.
I will add here also, netflix sign in does need some fine turning on android because its a pain in the butt!. Maybe someone knows where to type your useer name and password but so far I have not got that to work.
I have used it on the computer as well as on my iPhone. In regards to the phone it is completely accessible for what I can tell. However, on the computer, using jaws, you can not rewind or fastforward. If your the only person using your account this might be ok, but if you share an account and they watched something you had in mind and didn't finish it, in order to view it from the start it would initially have to be rewound back to the beginning. Again, this is as simple as clicking but with Jaws I have yet to find the control buttons.
also on android 4.3, I can not sign in to save my life, a person has to turn off talkback, still know way to sign in even if you ask a person who can see to help.
oh, let me update this post about 4.3 android and netflix, it is possible to brows movies, sign-in and watch movies on 4.3, just updating after I got my device signed in to netflix. samsung Galaxy S3 running cm_10.2 android 4.3 stock rom.
